Summary

Electronic news predates the Web. USENET newsgroups remain active. Related messages are grouped by subject line into "threads". Often a few readers post the majority of the messages. Newsgroup messages may be distributed by email or read. A newsgroup may be moderated or unmoderated.

Blogs are a more recent development. They usually follow the single writer, multiple reader model. Readers may respond to individual postings.

Members of a newsgroup form a community where active members frequently interact. (cbb 4/07)
